The University of the Free State is pleased to be hosting the 2012 Joint Annual Conference of the following societies:

  • Southern African Applied Linguistics Association (SAALA)
     
  • Linguistics Society of Southern Africa (LSSA)
     
  • South African Association of Language Teachers (SAALT)

About the conference theme

The 2012 conference aims to create a forum for research that not only celebrates the rich diversity of languages in South Africa, but also acknowledges the complexity of lingual phenomena, as well as the wide spectrum of theoretical and applied perspectives which reflect this complexity in the solutions and frameworks they propose.


Invited keynote speakers

The following academics have kindly agreed to contribute keynote presentations:

  • Marjolijn Verspoor (University of Groningen, the Netherlands)
    Topic: Second language development from a dynamic perspective
     
  • Kees de Bot (University of Groningen, the Netherlands)
    Topic: Circadian rhythms and language learning
     
  • Zubeida Desai (University of the Western Cape, South Africa)
     
  • Johann van der Walt (North-West University, South Africa)
     
  • Cynthia Miller-Naudé (University of the Free State, South Africa)
